Like vines, we intertwined

Behold, the vine-covered wall.
My new outdoor backdrop.
I don't know why, but things wrapped in vines look so rustic and appealing to the eye.
Last night, I watched on Discovery Channel's "Life" how some vines have little talons and some secrete an adhesive, so that they can securely attach themselves to the tree/house/brick wall of their choice.
Most of the episode was done with time-lapse videography. It was stunning. Highly recommend "Life".
Shirt: Aerie, Shorts: Hollister, Shoes: Aerie
I'm such a fan of this outfit. It was perfect for this beautiful day.
It's funny, I can't wear that shirt with long pants. It has to be shorts, or not at all.
Luckily, it seems that shorts season is here to stay!
I actually went thrifting today, for a school project! I'm writing an article on thrift stores and the recession. It's just an excuse to go to all of the thrift stores that I didn't have time to go to earlier this year.
Today I went to Amityville (yes, that Amityville) and I ended up buying a super duper ballin shirt for $3. And not only did I NOT take a picture of it, but I didn't take pictures of any of the picturesque small-town surroundings, either. I'm really off my photo-taking game.
College finals are robbing me of my sanity AND my creativity.
When I have free time, instead of doing something fun and productive, I sit and stare at the tv like a vegetable.
New shoes from Aerie. These are the first things I've bought from the mall in a long time.
Now this bag is pretty cool. I got it at Goodwill over winter break, thinking that it would be the perfect beach bag in the summer.
But it works fine as an everyday purse, too! It just doesn't have any pockets.
And it serves an educational purpose as well. I am now veryyyy familar with all of the major sites and cities in Belize.
Oh! My six year anniversary was yesterday! (Yes, that means we've been dating since MIDDLE SCHOOL.) Unfortunately, the day wasn't super exciting this year because...well...he and I are 150 miles apart. Bummer.
But whenever our anniversary comes around, that also means that my birthday is ten days away! So the countdown to my twentieth birthday has officially begun!
So I leave you now with a picture of me and this rad tree:
Enjoy your day! Good luck on your finals, college kids!

I will carry you through the hurricane waters.

Wow. Wow. Wow.
Have you ever had a day where you've realized that everything that could've gone wrong with it, went wrong?
It's the worst.
Luckily, I do have some sunnier days in my life to look forward to! There are some festivals happening this weekend that I am very excited to attend in the 80-degree weather!
Ah, weekends. You're always half a week away.
Sweater: J.Crew, Jeans: Hollister (reconstructed), Shoes: Macy's, Necklace: Anthropologie
Fun story:
I have no short-sleeve cardigans. All the ones I have are long-sleeved. So naturally, I was like, "Ugh, I have to buy short-sleeve cardigans. What a pain." AND THEN...I realized that if I tuck the sleeve of my long-sleeved cardigans up by my elbows, and fold the rest of the fabric over it, I have instant 3/4 length sleeve cardigans!
It's so silly, but I was really really proud of myself when I figured it out, so I might as well pass along the knowledge! 3/4 length and short-sleeve cardigans are really good for transitioning winter clothes into spring, which is what I am trying to attempt!
Well, writing this entry certainly made me feel a lot better for some reason!
I'm now going to enjoy my cappuccino fro-yo now, totally guilt-free.
Ice cream fixes most everything.

I'm never growing up.

Well, another successful Spring Weekend comes to a close.
What a long, strange trip it was. I can't even look back and pick out specific moments because all of the days and nights just seemed to blur together. It was all amazing.
Spring Weekend epitomizes what it is to be a college kid. Everyone out there feels invincible.
I can't resist taking advantage of the opportunity. I want to have plenty of stories to tell my grandkids someday.
Every day at UCONN was relaxing and sunny. Every night was a party of epic proportions.
Of course my favorite part of it all, and the whole reason I was even there was my boyfriend.
He's the absolute best. Our anniversary is coming up in a few days, so I'll hold off on gushing about him until then.
...and yes I know that North Face is the very antithesis of chic (see: UGG boots), but it was perfect for very chilly Connecticut nights.
I certainly wasn't pulling out all the stops to look as awesome as possible this weekend. It was all about the basics for this crazy week.
And wolf shirts.
You can't tell, but we're both wearing wolf shirts under our jackets.
We like to theme our outfits, my boyfriend and I.
Now I'm home. I have a couple weeks to detox..
AND THEN SUMMER BEGINS! INDULGENCE GALORE!
Can't wait, you guys.

We’re raising hell like a class when the lunch bell rings

Hi! Sorry for the lack of posts. I really want the hot weather to come back. I am beginning to despise my jeans. And I can't bare to stuff my legs into tights anymore.
But I wanted to give a quick update just to say that I will be away for exactly one week! Tomorrow night I'm leaving to go visit my boyfriend at school for UCONN's Spring Weekend.
If a week sounds excessive, just know that I have class only two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday), I've been finishing up all of the projects that are due next week, and two of my classes are canceled on Thursday anyway. Trust me, I've thought this through, and i'm ITCHING to get out of here.
My boyfriend CJ and I, at spring weekend a year ago.
I'm really hoping to take more pictures this year. I have a phobia of picture-taking which I really need to conquer, which is one of the reasons I started this blog!
Is taking pictures a weird thing to be afraid of?
......
Yeah, it is.
Cami: Old Navy, Necklace: Aerie (on sale)
Well, have a wonderful week, and I can't wait to share the excitement and debauchery with you when I get back!
....
(Just kidding. No debauchery on this blog. Save that for my Tumblr.)

What can you do with a sentimental heart?

So it's been a while since I posted. I've been on a paper-writing spree, and unfortunately it's sucked every molecule of creativity from me. So sartorially-speaking, you haven't missed much.
Thursday was a beauuutiful day, so I made it my mission to finally document the beauty which is Hofstra University in the springtime.
I love these flowers. They are called Bleeding Hearts. I think they are so beautiful.
My favorite picture of the bunch. I took a nap on the quad (I've made a habit of doing that on warm afternoons) and this is what I saw when I looked up.
...and this is what I wore today.
Cami: Old Navy, Cardigan: Old Navy, Jeans: Hollister (reconstructed), Shoes: Macy's
Heart Pin: Vintage, from shop in Cape May
Yes, it's a very very simple outfit. And it just needed a pin. As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm bringing them back.
It may be ridiculously childish, but I like my rainbow heart pin, goshdarnit!

The muscular cyborg german dudes dance with sexy french canadians

Yeah. That title has nothing to do with my day.
It was stuck in my head for hours, though.
So this week's goal is to eliminate ALL of my long-term projects so I can just coast for the rest of the year. Today I tackled english class. I read 100 pages and wrote a term paper. It took me all day (I get distracted easily) but I am FINISHED.
Women's studies final, you're next.
..and this is what I wore:
Shirt: f21, Jeans: J.Crew, Flower: Vintage
Is it odd that I take my pictures at night? I just thought of this.
Well it was either at night or in the poorly-lit library, sooooooooo...
Vintage bracelet.
Now, I'd really like to see pins make a comeback.
I have a collection of kitchy pins, this one of course being my favorite. I got this one the summer of my junior year of high school at a vintage shop. I recently thought that I broke it, so it's been just a decoration on my desk, but today I fixed it! Awesome!
Have a good night!

Vacation: All I ever wanted

Hello! Well, let me begin this entry with the very very happy news.....my TV is back!!!
Oh what a semester its been, with a perfectly good television set sitting unused under my bed, collecting dust, because the cable outlet was broken. Well its good to have you back, my friend!
In other news, I actually went out thrifting for a journalism project today, and everywhere I wanted to look was closed. Apparently lots of thrift stores take Mondays off? Hm. Well, I found this spectacle along the way:
Look at that gigantic ice cream cone! I want it!
I'll try to get a better picture of it on Wednesday, when I go thrifting again. That thing is gargantuan.
....and this is what I wore.
Cardigan: Calvin Klein, Tank: H&M, Skirt: Thrifted and reconstructed, Shoes: Target
Here's another bad ass print that I have in my collection.
It's a vacation print skirt (that used to be a ridiculous, ridiculous excuse for a dress), from the 1980s, that I bought from Goodwill for $5.
I reconstructed it this past winter, and I am just now wearing it for the first time. I can't believe it took me this long! I love looking down and seeing pineapples and pink corvettes on my skirt!
Fun '80s prints are the best.
and this is my normal canvas bag, that I got many years ago from American Eagle. I've switched out my leather bags for canvas bags for the season. I love how summery it feels.
I think I'm ready for a vacation of my own!
Luckily, I have one coming up in about a week and a half...more info to come :)

99 Hofstra-colored balloons go by..

Wow. I almost had nothing to talk about today, and then much to my delight, this happened outside of my window:
These kids were trying to take down an arch of balloons that were set up for admitted students day.
And I guess they decided it would be fun to let them go!
All I could hear was "99 Luftballoons" in my head as this happened. Haha!
..and now what i wore:
Cardigan: Old Navy, Tank: Up Against the Wall in California, Jeans: Hollister, Flip Flops: Hollister
And the glasses, as I've mentioned before, were free and I got them at a wedding reception. Long story.
This print is just bad ass.
OK. Two things:
1. Why does California have the coolest clothes I've ever seen? This tank was from a store that I went to in the Beverly Center in LA. It was $50, but I've worn it roughly a billion times in the 4 years I've owned it. I need to be around more stores with clothes like this. (also, the little mermaid skirt a couple posts back was also from that trip to California. I think I'm a bit overdue for a return to the Golden State.)
2. What are you guys doing for footwear this summer? As you can see, I'm wearing flip-flops because I don't feel like wearing flats..but there must be a classier alternative! I guess strappy sandals would be my only other option? If you see a pair online, post me a link to them, because I haven't found any yet. Maybe I just need to look harder. Hm.
Toodles, everyone!

In the daylight, anywhere feels like home

Today was really adorable.
Actually, I don't know why I say that, because from 8:30 AM to 10PM I was running around like a maniac. But I was able to briefly stop and enjoy the beautiful weather for a little while.
By that, I mean that I took a nap in the quad today instead of in my bed. I highly recommend napping outside in between classes on beautiful days. It cuts down on time getting to class AND ups your Vitamin D levels!
The one downside: You have to sleep with one eye open so you don't get pelted with a football/frisbee/hacky sack.
Cardigan: American Eagle (clearance), Tank: J.Crew, Shorts: J. Crew, Shoes: Macy's
Why do I look so triumphant in this picture?
Love the bug motif on the shorts. I love quirky pieces like this one.
And finally, today I wore the beautiful necklace that I won from Audrey's giveaway! Thank you again!
