Rain, Rain, go away

UGH. This cold, rainy weather has sucked all of the inspiration from me.
Although, I have to say, living on a mountain has its perks. I've seen how badly some of the neighboring towns are flooded. People with a lake or a river in their backyard are in danger of their house being swept away. It's really unfortunate.
Luckily, today is the last day of rain, and the rest of the week is all sun, sun, sun.
SO YAY!
haha, emo picture alert.... Shirt: Hollister, Jeans: f21, Socks: Target
Today I was going to do a very productive things around town, but my dad went to the clinic because he pinched a nerve in his back. :( He's okay, though. We're gonna spend the rest of the day watching movies.
Oh, and even though I will not be attending this fabulous event, check out this music blog, dedicated to all of the top songs by the artists performing at Coachella 2010! It's been my dream to attend a music festival like this one. Maybe someday....
And I do have some very good, exciting news! I won the giveaway from She's Got a Ticket to Ride! I'm so excited for my necklace to get here!!
Today is already looking a bit brighter. :)

So sweet and so cold

At home, Sunday morning is the busiest time of the week.
I wake up around 8:45 AM (it was much earlier when I was younger, because I had to do my hair), I squeeze into my pantyhose and too-small church shoes, and we all hop in the car and drive 45 minutes to church.
I love my church, don't get me wrong. I just wish it was closer so Sunday mornings weren't such a hassle.
Blazer: American Eagle (sale), Skirt: f21, Tights: Aerie, Shoes: Payless
I used to have a separate part of my closet, just for church clothes. I never thought that you could wear church clothes on regular days. I think that's why I never wore skirts regularly.
A better picture of the color of the blazer. It's a plum purple.
(Title from the poem "This is just to say" by William Carlos Williams. One of my favorites.)

Home again.

Ahh, spring break.
Shirt: J.Crew, Jeans: J.Crew
I'm home for a week on spring break. I somehow managed to pack NO CLOTHES, so I'm going to have to get creative with what I have.
I also don't have a camera cable, but I hope to get one tomorrow.
Have a lovely weekend!

Four winds blowing through her hair...

Hello everyone!
Yesterday was a pretty momentous day for this little blog. I was featured on Modcloth's blog, talking about my "favorite vintage find" and I also was picked for the Baby Says Boutique giveaway on Delightfully Tacky's blog!
Thank you so so much to Modcloth and to Elizabeth!! You both made my day!
So yesterday was extremely awesome....
But today wasn't too shabby either!
Cardigan: Old Navy
Dress: Hollister
Tights: Aerie
Shoes: Macy's
Necklace: Anthropologie
Special thanks to the wind for being extra cooperative today. Vintage ring from a shop in Higganum, CT. On nice days like today, when I don't have much else to do, I like to explore the island a bit, so today I went on thrifting adventures in the towns Islip and Babylon. Only had success in Babylon, though.
(ALTHOUGH, I found a dressform in an antique store in Islip. I was afraid to ask how much it was, since everything in the store was very expensive. I may ask for one for my birthday.) I got this from the vintage shop Bon Marche (the same store I got my checkered shirt in the Modcloth post). I love going into that store because of the women that work there. The owner, Mary and I talked about journalism for about ten minutes, before I decided to get the skirt. She's the sweetest. Also picked up $2 awesome grandma earrings from St. Joseph's Thrift Shop in Babylon.
A very successful day. And we've still got some sunlight, so I'll get out there and enjoy it!
Good night, folks!

Lazy Saturday, Sunday, and Monday

WOW! I have been impressively lazy this weekend! Luckily, I managed to muster up enough effort to get my homework done, but man.... spring fever has hit me hard. Didn't help that this weekend was the most beautiful weekend that New York has seen this year.
..and I apologize in advance for the poor-quality outfit picture. This was taken in a rush on Saturday. I just had to document it.
tank: j.crew, skirt: target, necklace: vintage
Today is another day for lazing around, although it is not nearly as nice as it was even yesterday. Such a shame..
So today I'll be saying goodbye to the mint green nail polish I've been sporting for the last two weeks.
...and indulging myself in my favorite ice cream of the same color.
I also am catching on some of the films on my movie list. I'm on a semi-biographical movie kick. Last weekend I finally saw Coco Avant Chanel, with one of my favorite actresses, Audrey Tantou. This weekend I saw Nine (with my other favorite actress, Marion Cotillard), which was FABULOUS (sidenote: if you like Nine, watch 8 1/2, the movie it was based off of. It is cinematic art). I also watched Grey Gardens, both the 2009 remake and the 1975 documentary. What fascinating women! You just couldn't write a story like that, it's so bizarre.
(sweater: f21 sale)
I must figure out what movie I will watch next. Suggestions?

The Hamptons

So yesterday I went to the Hamptons with my mom! Neither of us had ever been there. It's such a cute place!
Out Of The Closet Vintage Clothing, Bridgehampton, NY
It was an AMAZING selection. I could've spent hours in there.
Mom: "Dad would totally wear those."
Mom!
I had a falafel pita with potato chips for lunch.
Tank: Anthropologie, Jeans: J.Crew, Shoes: Target, Purse: Anthropologie
and the obligatory shot of my feet.
What an amazing day!

Kiss from a rose

Good evening! I wasn't really expecting much from my appearance today. I cared a bit more about nourishment this morning, than what I happened to look like. But surprisingly I pulled it together more and more as the day went on! Strange..
Anyway, this was my first two-school-day week. It was weird. Especially St. Patrick's day. I felt like I lived in an alternate universe where everyone around me had class to go to and work to do, and I was just free to roam about and lay in the sun....
I feel like a high school senior again.
Except in reality I'm a college sophomore, and it's only Mid-March. GRRR.
Tank: Urban Outfitters, Jeans: Hollister, Shoes: Steve Madden
purple roses!
It was 65 and gorgeous out again today. I'm happy I got to take advantage of that. Except, I looked around and saw people still wearing winter jackets. What is wrong with this campus?
Ah, well.
(Title brought to you by Seal-Kiss from a rose. I would highly recommend watching this video. Seal+Batman= Epic)

Happy Patty's Day!

Get outside! The sun's out and it's gorgeous out! I even took a picture outside today!!! You don't understand what an important fear this is for me to overcome!
tee: old navy, jeans: f21, shoes: surf shop
It's a start. I have to be mindful of the time of day I shoot (direct sunlight COMPLETELY washes out my features). It'll all be up from here, I promise. I felt kind of rushed because I wanted to start working on my tan, while it was so sunny and warm out!
Have a happy st. patrick's day!

Sun, Sun, Sun, here it comes!

Ahhh! Sunshine!! I can't tell you how happy I was to feel its warming rays today. Everybody seemed so...peppy. I guess after being cooped up inside with 4 days in a row of rain and wind, everyone was ready for some love from Mr. Sun.
Jacket: Salvation Army..for a dollar! , Shirt: H&M, Jeans: Hollister, Shoes: Target, Necklace: Anthropologie
In retrospect, I should've saved this outfit for tomorrow...now I have nothing green to wear on St. Patty's Day. Damnnnnn. I like to match my holidays.
This jacket was, as aforementioned, purchased this weekend for a dollar. Yes. It's got the nautical theme going on, it's cropped, AND its got these sweet buttons with a lion crest on it! Does it get any better?
Happy St. Patty's Day Eve!
...or something.

She's like a rainbow

So last night I visited Color Me Katie's blog for the first time. And I was immediately inspired by everything. Her optimistic outlook on life, her color pictures, and all of the outings that she documents with Improv Everywhere. I immediately wanted to immerse myself into a happy, colorful world like hers.
I was bursting with ideas during the night, so I wrote them down in the dark on a post-it. It's always great trying to decipher my notes the next day.
I want to start using a broader spectrum of my nail colors. While I still can. My job back home at Hollister doesn't allow painted nails :(
Daydreamin on my grass carpet. I wish the floors were actually grassy. It would always be so soft...
Lots of Katie's art is done with just construction paper and tape.
I attempt to recreate one of her self-portraits.
I had to look like a rainbow today. I wanted tye-dye, but this vintage blouse will do!
Blouse: Vintage, Pants: Hollister, Shoes: NONE.
Thank you Katie, for inspiring me! I am now BURSTING with ideas to recreate in my clothing reconstructions AND on camera.
I now declare Mondays to be my arts-and-crafts day.
Adieu!
(PS. I'm going to start linking to the destination where I get my titles.

Me and julio by the schoolyard

Hey there, hope you're enjoying the weekend! Mine's been pretty great so far. Take a listen to this playlist that I made this morning, I promise you'll enjoy it! All of the songs are fairly new favorites of mine, and they'll probably be a part of my summer 2010 soundtrack. I don't know about you, but my favorite songs are the ones that remind me of summer. Even if the song itself has nothing to do with season.
I think I'm just in love with summer.
I'm also in love with furniture stores, but that's a story for another time.
Sweater: f21, Shoes: Steve Madden, Necklace: Vintage, Glasses: Found them at a wedding (?)
Yeah, I definitely put pants on when I went outside, don't worry. I really don't like pants. Despite the fact that I wear them every day. I only have to wear them when I'm in public, really. What's the point, otherwise?
Ok. So I've also decided to do a little Nylon-style "bag check" as well....
(from left to right): Umbrella
Dr. Pepper chapstick (the only kind of chapstick I'll ever use), f21 wallet, GPS (i like to go exploring), f21 pocket mirror, iPod touch ,orange tic-tacs, Alice in Wonderland (currently reading in English class), cell phone (Verizon Blitz), mini hairspray, car-house-and-room key w/Hofstra lanyard, my Sunday to-do list (I'm helpless without it), student ID, agenda (a giant book of scribbles that I would also be lost without)
I could probably cut a couple things out, but all of these things are essential in my every day life. It's impossible for me to pack lightly. I'm such a girl.
(PS. the title is brought to you by Paul Simon. If you're still confused, refer to Song #3 in the above playlist)

I'm blue da ba dee.

So this morning I had somehow unknowingly put together an all-blue outfit. yeah. For some reason, wearing all of one color has always bothered me. So I had to change the belt I was wearing to break up the blue-ness. And then I felt better.
Blouse: Old Navy, Tank: J. Crew, Jeans: f21, Shoes: Macy's, Belt: J.Crew
You know what also bothers me? Low-quality photos. UGHHH. I have to take pictures at a very specific time, otherwise they don't come out as well as I want them. GRR.
Well no matter. It is the weekend. All obligations can be postponed now.
I'm going to indulge in something deep fried now. :)
