Chelsea Market

Whew! Just got back from spending my Sunday in NYC with my mom. What an awesome trip this was. She comes down to visit about twice every semester, and we go into the city and we always do something different. In the year and a half that I've been at school, we've gone ice skating in Rockefeller Center, seen the Radio City Christmas show, went to the MoMA, visited her old apartment in Brooklyn, gone to Coney Island to the aquarium, and gone to Astoria to visit our favorite Greek specialty food market, Titan. It's really wonderful. We're already planning our next big city extravaganza, going to Chinatown and Little Italy, probably sometime in April. I'm so lucky my mom knows the city so well.
Anyway, this time we went to Chelsea Market and then we went to see the Broadway musical, South Pacific! Here are (some of) the pictures I took of Chelsea Market before my camera died:
My mom's name is Eleni. This bakery had cupcakes and cookies with the actors and actresses nominated for this year's Oscars on them! I really wanted a Meryl Streep cupcake.
We got gelato after lunch! Mine's on the left. It was chocolate-chili gelato. Very interesting flavor. The chili aftertaste BURNED my mouth. Luckily, mom shared her mint-chip-and-chocolate gelato with me.
And this is what I wore:
Coat: Wilson's Leather, Jeans: Old Navy, Boots: Thrifted, Gloves: J.Crew, Purse: Anthropologie
Oh what a fun day. I would really prefer not to go back to internship tomorrow. :( wah.

We're all plaid here.

I attempted to go thrifting this morning. For some reason, I just wasn't feeling the selection from any of the stores. However, I did get this blue belt from the Salvation Army for $1. Pretty sweet.
After it was all over, I shopped the more upscale shops in Babylon, but didn't buy anything. (I kind of cringe when the cheapest item in an entire store is $20. And it's a headband.) So I went to a local bakery and got a cupcake! It was really delightful.
I'll just have to try again next weekend, I guess.
Shirt: men's Hollister, Leggings: F21, Shoes: Steve Madden, Belt: Thrifted
(My comfy thrifting outfit.)
Close up of the shoes.
Painted my nails when I got home. Just wanted something neutral.
And then I took pictures of my jewelry! I haven't been wearing dangly earrings as much, since I cut my hair short. Not really sure why, but I've acquired some fun pairs over time. The burger earrings came from a seller on Etsy.
The parrot earrings came from a boutique in Cape May. I got them about four years ago, and have only worn them a few times. The Jack Daniels earrings in the background also came from Etsy.
Sigh. I'm never going to get myself in the mindset to get some real work done. I'm going to take a nap instead.
Toodles!

Snow day #2!

Good afternoon! I don't know what it was about today, but I was determined to be productive.
Woke up at 10am, attempted to go to the mall to return things from last weekend's little outing (sigh...it happens.), but spend a half hour digging my car out of the snow instead. Classes were canceled, and the campus was basically a ghost town, so I took a few pictures of the snow-covered area around my dorm. Only these two on my digital camera, but many more on my Canon AE-1. I'm getting the hang of this photography thing, I think.
Anyway, as I mentioned before, I wanted to go to the mall, and after that I would rush over to audition for a part in a student film (it's a zombie movieee) and then do laundry and the rest of my Friday chores. But the roads were bad, and the audition was postponed, so I got a chocolate chip muffin and went window-shopping on the internet instead. There's an Etsy blouse that I've been eyeing..It's white and flowy and looks like the perfect '70s flower child blouse...Except I'm scared that the fit will be all wrong on me and it will end up looking like a night gown. :/ Online shopping makes me nervous sometimes.
What did I wear today? Does it even matter?
Shirt: Old Navy, Shorts: Aerie (sale), Socks: Target, Scarf: North Carolina boutique
(yes, I went out of my dorm to do laundry dressed like this. No shame.)
Today's mini-photoshoot was really eye-opening, as weird as that may seem. The difference that good lighting makes is quite astounding. In fact...I'm thinking about rearranging the furniture in my dorm so that I can take pictures without the scary back-lighting action I usually got going on. Of course, if I shot outside, that would solve all my problems....hrm.
OH! What is this? A high-quality picture of my outfit details?! Yessir. I never thought the macro on my camera was that good...but I guess I need good lighting, a steady hand, and a little bit of faith...because I am very pleased with these. It's a learning process, it really is.
So we shall see about the room remodeling. I'll keep you posted.
XOXO.
(edit: Not sure about the room remodeling, still. Since my room is small and has like, two outlets. BUT I got the blouse!! I can't wait for it to get here!)

Singin' in the rain, snow, sleet, and hail

So.....can we talk about the weather? I don't mind it too much, since I don't really have anywhere to be until Sunday..but seriously?! Rain, then sleet, then snow? Can I not end every sentence with a question? Ever? HMM?
Despite what you may think, today was actually very lovely. Two of my classes were canceled, I got a leisurely lunch with friends, and got a head start on my homework. Not a shabby start to the weekend.
But what could I have worn on this day of so many different elements of weather:
Sweater: American Eagle, Jeans: J. Crew, Necklace: Anthropologie, Scarf: f21, Boots: Dylan's Candy Bar
Yeah, I admit, I was about to take off the rain boots and put on my trusty brown boots for the mini-photoshoot, but that's so inauthentic! Psh, I wore these crazy things on my feet today. I think they are what made me so happy. I've always had a vision to recreate the iconic "Singin' In The Rain" picture. I will, someday.
I think this might be the biggest reason why I'm in such a good mood. My dad sent me a gift card to Crumbs Bake Shop! Oh cupcakes galore....What a glorious feeling!
Have a fantastic weekend!

I love the way you move me

Hey kids, guess what I learned today? I am in LOVE with the Dave Matthews Band's new album (Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King)! Have I been living under a rock for the past eight months? Answer: It is quite possible.
But seriously, have you listened to "Spaceman"? What fantastic songwriting! That's not even the big song on the album, either! It's totally the kind of album that I'd listen to while going on a cross-country road trip in the summertime, with the sunroof and windows down the whole way. Yeah, now I want to delve in to the rest of their stuff! I'm very intrigued, Mr. Matthews. Perhaps I, too, will black out at your summer concert this year along with the rest of the hometown-I mean, what?
Ahem, outfits, shall we?
Dress: Hollister, Maxi-Cardigan: Delia's (on sale), Tights: Aerie, Shoes: Macy's, Necklace: Vintage, Ring: Hippie Shop in CT
Yeah, these pictures don't really do the outfit justice. I have to give myself snaps for such a cute internship outfit today. Some people find it natural to wear skirts and tights everyday, and I really admire that, I need to step my game up! Sigh.
PS. Pardon all the extra junk on my dresser. I need to tidy up a bit before I have a photoshoot, haha.

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head

Wow. What a miserable day today was. Not just weather-wise, either. Classes were all blah, got some blah grades back, felt blah about everything, and while I was getting lunch with a friend, I felt a sudden feeling of loneliness that I couldn't ever get lunch with my boyfriend like this, as we both go to different schools about 3 hours from each other. So I got all moody and introspective and started feeling bad.
But it's important to shake those feelings off as soon as possible, you know? Always look on the bright side of life, as they say!
This is what I wore while feeling aloof and moody:
Shirt: H&M, Jeans: Hollister, reconstructed, Boots: Thrifted, Necklace: H&M, Bracelet: H&M
And I've decided that I'm going to continue to have wavy, crimped hair until it gets long enough to put in a high bun again. The main reason why there were no photographs on Monday was because it was a laughably bad hair day.
Oh, and what's that green thing dangling from my neck? An apple! I got it this weekend at the mall, even though I told myself I don't need anymore jewelry. It was the last one left, and it was tangled up in 5 different necklaces, and on top of that it was BROKEN. It's supposed to open and shut magnetically but the magnet doesn't work. So I saved it, and got 10% off of it! And then I went home and taped it shut (you can sort of see near the bottom of it) and hooray! Apple necklace!
I know tomorrow will be a better day. Even though I have internship for 7 hours...and it'll be raining...mumble grumble.

Five Hours of Daytime

Hey! Quick post before I leave to go to a birthday party!
I woke up at 1pm today. Oy. That doesn't happen unless I stayed up very late the night before.
You know how to late night games of Apples to Apples can get. Hoo-eee.
Haha, enough of my ridiculous chatter. This is what I'm wearing to the party:
shirt: hollister, jeans: f21, boots: steve madden
Originally, my outfit was going to be a little bit more elaborate. But I kind of don't want to be flashy tonight. You know you just have those nights where you just want to wear something simple? That's tonight right now.
....oh my its nearly 6pm. I have only been awake for 5 hours and I'm going out to dinner now!! So weirrrdddddddddd!

Like Buttah

So I went shopping this morning! I hate going shopping on the weekends at the mall (especially Roosevelt Field Mall. Those people are crazy.) So I woke up at the crack of 10am and dashed over there, and picked up lots of cute stuff! I took a picture of me holding up all of my bags a la Isla Fisher, but they all came out dark. Yeah, backlighting isn't the best way to light anything....ever. Oh well. I make my own rules.
Shirt: Old Navy (gift), Jeans: J. Crew, Shoes: Macy's, Necklace: Anthropologie
Yes, the shirt was a Christmas gift, which is funny because I NEVER get clothes as gifts. Only gift cards to retail stores. I guess my family thinks I'm a really picky shopper. Anyway, my aunt got this shirt for me, and its something that I NEVER would've picked out for myself, but I love it!! It's incredibly comfy. Like buttah.

Bad Hair Day

So I tried something different with my hair last night. (I do my hair at night, to avoid doing it in the morning. Because I don't feel like fussing with my appearance in the morning, EVER.) What I've been doing lately is right after blowdrying it, dividing my hair into four sections, and then braiding each section. It comes out really wavy, like I crimped it. But I like it.
Before I cut my hair, when it was longer, I put it all up in a bun, and it was really awesome and wavy the next morning. So I tried to do that again, and it came out kind of wavy, but mostly straight. So I walked around all self-conscious today, thinking that my hair looked bad. But that's just me being self-conscious. Sigh. Bad habits.
shirt: Hollister ($10), Jeans: Hollister (reconstructed), Shoes: Steve Madden
(Note: If I'm wearing something from Hollister, chances are I didn't spend more than $20 on it. I work at an outlet Hollister. Yes, they actually exist!)
This outfit is really casual, but I felt fancy and cute in it nonetheless. I wear jeans everyday, I'll admit it!
Anyway, I think that's it for today. Hasta manana.

Purple Haze

Hey ya'll. It's Wednesday! Exciting, right?!
No. No one gets excited about Wednesdays.
Anyway, I made 200 phone calls at my internship today. TWO. HUNDRED. PHONE CALLS. It was the opposite of fun. But that's life, I suppose.
I'm still in vacation-mode from staying at UCONN, so last night I couldn't go to bed until 3am. I totally knew that I was going to regret it in the morning, and I DID. Oh well. Not too much I could've done it, I 'spose.
Well, here's what I was wearing while I was making those 200 phone calls:
Purple Corduroy Blazer: American Eagle (clearance), Jeans: J. Crew (clearance), Shirt: f21, Boots: Thrifted
This necklace is actually my mom's! She's had it since the '80s, and I've never seen her wear it. Over Christmas break, we were rummaging through her jewelry box, and I found all of this amazing jewelry, that have just been tucked in there for years and years! She passed this black onyx necklace onto me, but held onto the matching earrings.
Hmmm. That's about it, I believe. I was going to go to the mall yesterday, but it decided to snow again, so I stayed tucked in bed instead. I guess the mall's been pushed to Friday morning. I only like going there when there aren't going to be crowds....I don't know how this will turn out.
Well, if it doesn't work out, I have a couple of vintage stores I want to check out.
Either way, money will be spent on clothes this weekend. Make no mistake. ugh, whatever.

The Candy Man Can

Hi! I'm home from my mini-vacation to UCONN. It was really, really awesome to see my boyfriend again. For Valentine's Day, we did NOTHING. Not a single thing. And it was so perfect. We watched Lost in Translation, then got buffalo chicken wraps at the student union for dinner, then watched the Olympics with his friends in the next dorm. Honestly, it made me really rethink Valentine's Day and what it means to me. Hmmm.
And yeah. I forgot my camera, so the wonderful fabulous outfits I was wearing will forever remain a mystery. Such a shame. But when you're hanging out with guys all day, you start to feel kind of overdressed.
I certainly didn't feel overdressed today:
Shirt: H&M, Jeans: Hollister, Boots: Dylan's Candy Bar, Necklace: Modcloth
I love my candy-covered boots, man. So there really isn't anything special about this outfit. But it's snowing and I just needing something to throw on to go meet a friend for lunch. Perfectly adequate, right?

really quick

Hey. So I'm not back yet, but I should warn you that I forgot my camera so there are not going to be outfit posts for these past few days :( very sad. Ok, that's it!

sweeeeeet diiiiiiiiiispooooo-si-tion

Haha. Can you name that tune? I'm having too much fun with these titles.
Well tonight I leave for UCONN, to visit my boyfriend for Valentine's Weekend. It's pretty perfect, since I have no Friday classes, and our Monday and Tuesday classes are canceled. Pretty sweet, man.
Last year for Valentine's Day, I was tucked in my dorm, all alone. All of my roommates and suitemates left to go home for the long weekend. I couldn't go anywhere because I was shooting a film. The film shoot was fun..but being alone on Valentine's wasn't. Meh. OH WELL LIVE AND LEARN, EH?
Cardigan: f21 (on sale), Tank: Old Navy, Jeans: f21, Boots: Thrifted, Necklace: Polo Ralph Lauren (on sale)
Now, this outfit was supposed to be WAY different. I was wearing a large plaid button-down over the tank, with a different necklace on. Then I thought....Hm. I never wear pearls. And then I ended up changing the whole thing. This might be the most Valentine's-ish outfit I have! And I found it by accident! So I took the opportunity to snap a picture to enter into Chictopia's Forever Sweetheart Contest.
Awww. Honestly, I know that Valentine's Day is a silly holiday. I'm just a romantic, I guess. Well, I'm off to Connecticut til Monday! I'll be taking outfit pictures and all of that, and posting them when I get back. Enjoy the weekend!
(On a more somber note, it was just recently reported that Alexander McQueen was found dead in his apartment. I can honestly say that this news has shaken me, as well as the entire fashion world. We'll all be mourning the loss of this amazing, talented designer.)

Snow day dress-up

Well. It seems that Snowpocolypse: The Sequel was a bitter hit up here than we all expected. Hm. Nature is a funny thing. I was extra happy to find out at 7AM this morning that I would be interning from the comfort of my own cozy bed instead of braving the terrible weather.
View from my window. that tall building is our library, and its connected by a covered bridge called a unispan to our student center. I conveniently live TWO FEET away from it. I used to have to trek to much farther to go to library.
Also, these pictures were taken at 7AM. It was barely snowing. It's now 2:30, and it's snowing quite a bit harder. Hmph, whatever. Just as long as it simmers down by tomorrow, that's all I care about. Looking down from my window
So this is what I wore while bumming out to the extreme:
Tank: H&M, Sweatpants: UCONN store (boyfriend's), fuzzy socks: Target
So even though I had the whole day to pretty much do whatever I wanted, I couldn't really get back to sleep after my supervisor woke me up so early. So I did what any self-respecting girl in need of something to entertain herself would do...play dress up, of course! I want to start incorporating this aqua tights and more skirts and blazers into my daily wear. These are three combinations of outfits I've never worn before, but have owned for quite some time. I think we all need to play dress-up every once in a while, it's like refreshing your wardrobe, without spending a cent!

oh the weather outside is frightful...

Well. Not YET. Hopefully, not ever. I cannot express to you how much I LOATHE the snow. I really really don't like it. And so far this year, we haven't really gotten a ton (I'm in Long Island at school), like the Snowpocolypse that we were supposed to get this weekend? Pfft, didn't happen. Lies. But they are so certain that Snowpocolypse 2: The Real Deal is supposed to hit us, that they went ahead and canceled school. Hey, I'm not complaining. I have internship on Wednesdays, so I don't have classes anyway. And if it actually does snow, I'll be working from home (which is what I'm banking on right about now, because I don't want to wake up at 7:45 am, thanks.)
I just hope that whatever weather happens, happens tomorrow, and then we're done. Because I've got some amazing Valentine's plans, and I don't want to have to delay them because of the SNOWWWW. Ugh.
Anyway! Outfits:
Shirt: Vintage, Jeans: J.Crew, Shoes: Jessica Simpson (originally from Macy's) (I wear these shoes alot, don't I? Hmm.)
Hmmm. Notice something missing? Yup. No more tv. That thing was soooooo old. And one of its cables was all shredded up and kept falling out of the socket. Yeah. It's for the best. I can now devote more time to reading and going for walks and things like that. I can also use this as an excuse to catch up on all my missed shows on hulu. I watched Glee for the first time last night. UHH amazing show that I was totally missing out on! geez. I'm the last to know about cool things, it seems. OK. So this shirt is the shirt that I got at Bon Marche Thrift Shop for $10. It fits me PERFECTLY. If it didn't fit me so perfectly, I would've had a hard time handing over the money for it, since the pattern is pretty loud. But the shop owner saw me in it, and LOVED it. So I had to get it. It's from the 1960's, and it saw the light of day for the first time in god knows how long today. Sigh. Also, I made these last night. Sorry for not getting a picture of me wearing them or even a before pic. I'm really bad. They used to fall just below my knee. So...kinda flattering but not really. These are just about fingertip-length. Very very cute. I'm always happy when I can make my favorite clothes from high school live on as new creations.
So bundle up and enjoy the snow tomorrow!
